American Woman Arrested with Over 4 kg of Methamphetamine at Phuket Airport

Phuket: An American woman was hiding more than 4 kilograms of methamphetamine, known as ice, worth tens of millions of baht, and was preparing to fly from Phuket Airport to South Korea. She was arrested by Thai police in time. Officers joined forces to search the luggage of a 65-year-old American woman, a passenger on an airline traveling from Phuket International Airport to Singapore's Changi International Airport, and would be connecting to Jeju International Airport in South Korea, after an informant reported that a foreign woman matching the description would be smuggling a large amount of ice out of Thailand, and would be arriving on the evening of February 23, 2025.

According to Thai News Agency, the woman, as reported by the informant, was found on the 3rd floor of the international passenger terminal, and something unusual was detected in her checked luggage. This led to an inspection in front of the owner. Four pieces of methamphetamine, in the form of cloudy white flakes, were found wrapped in clear plastic, brown paper, and carbon paper, secured with brown tape, weighing 4.3 kg, hidden in a bed sheet. Initial examination of the items using a chemical solution confirmed that they were methamphetamine, a Category 1 narcotic. The suspect confessed and was taken into custody and will be prosecuted according to the law.

For this batch of methamphetamine that was intended to slip out of Thailand to a third country, it may be worth tens of millions of baht. The authorities have charged her with attempting to take Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine) out of the Kingdom without permission and possessing Category 1 narcotics without permission.

In another incident, soldiers clashed with a drug trafficking gang in Chiang Rai Province. The commander of the Chao Tak Special Forces Unit and relevant agencies investigated after a clash occurred in Ban Pa Sang Sung, Mae Fah Luang District. The Chao Tak Special Forces Unit, while patrolling, found a group of suspicious individuals carrying backpacks, approximately 15-20 people, in the border area. They attempted to search them, but the group used an unknown type of gun to shoot at officers, resulting in a clash lasting approximately 30 minutes. The officers were safe and sent two additional teams to control the area. An inspection found 14 backpacks containing approximately 2,800,000 methamphetamine pills.
