Those found knowingly applying without proper qualifications may face severe legal consequences.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission is urging individuals considering running for these local government positions to thoroughly review the necessary qualifications and prohibited characteristics outlined in the election guidelines. Candidates can access this vital information via the Election Commission's website or the Smart Vote application. Additionally, inquiries can be made at any provincial Election Commission Office.

The commission has highlighted the legal repercussions for those who disregard these qualifications. Candidates found lacking the required qualifications or possessing prohibited characteristics face potential imprisonment ranging from 1 to 10 years, fines between 20,000 to 200,000 baht, and a 20-year revocation of voting rights as mandated by Section 120 of the Local Government Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019), amended in 2023.
