Bangkok: The Election Commission (EC) has embarked on an intensive training program to prepare its networks for upcoming elections at both national and local levels. Chairman Ittiporn Boonprakong has urged enhanced public relations efforts to disseminate election knowledge and news to the public.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong inaugurated a network collaboration activity aimed at expanding the election communication strategy. This initiative seeks to educate provincial public relations networks, ensuring they are well-versed with evolving laws, regulations, and election practices. The event also included a seminar to brainstorm ideas for advancing the public relations efforts of the Election Commission Office network.
Mr. Ittiporn emphasized that the EC's duties extend beyond the capabilities of its personnel, requiring collaboration with government agencies, private organizations, and the public. The initiative seeks cooperation from various media outlets and entities such as the Democracy Promotion Center, Volunteer Scouts, and other volunteer networks to enhance public understanding of the democratic regime with the King as Head of State.
Effective communication with network partners is crucial for synchronized operations. The Public Relations Department is considered a pivotal partner for the EC, tasked with disseminating information to the public. The Democracy Promotion Committee is also instrumental in fostering correct understanding of the democratic framework. The year 2025 is significant due to the local elections, including those for provincial administrative organization leaders and municipal council members, scheduled for February and May respectively.
The EC has organized activities nationwide to strengthen network capabilities and adapt strategies for promoting democratic understanding. These efforts aim to establish a sustainable democratic foundation in the country.
Mr. Ittiporn further stressed the importance of proactive public relations, noting the necessity of delivering news directly to the people. The current focus is on the election to fill a vacant House of Representatives seat in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. This election serves as a precursor to the municipal elections slated for May.
Reflecting on past voter turnouts, Mr. Ittiporn highlighted the need to increase voter participation in upcoming elections. Public relations efforts will focus on providing comprehensive information about polling stations, candidate details, ballot marking, and voter identification requirements. Coordination with the Ministry of Labor and related agencies is also underway to facilitate voter participation and address any potential political rights issues.
