EGAT Advances with Bidding for 280 MW Floating Solar Project at Srinakarin Dam 3

Kanchanaburi: EGAT is making significant strides in its clean energy initiatives with the commencement of bidding for the 280 megawatt (MWac) floating solar power plant project at Srinakarin Dam 3. The bidding process is open from August 26 to September 26, 2025, marking an important step in the project slated for commercial operation by 2028.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Tidet Iamsai, Deputy Governor for Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), outlined the project's alignment with EGAT's broader strategy to enhance clean energy production. The floating solar power plant, located in Kanchanaburi Province, will utilize solar panels installed on floating pontoons within the dam's reservoir. This innovative approach allows the project to share infrastructure and equipment with existing hydropower facilities, thereby reducing electricity production costs and maintaining competitive electricity prices. Additionally, the use of environmentally friendly materials and a sloped design for solar panel installation ensures minimal impact on the environment and underwater ecosystems.

This project is a key component of the Thailand Power Development Plan 2018-2037, Revision 1 (PDP2018 Revision 1). The plan targets the development of 2,725 megawatts of surface renewable energy capacity in EGAT's dams nationwide by 2037. This initiative is part of Thailand's efforts to boost clean energy usage, optimize water resource management, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with net-zero emissions targeted for 2065. The plan includes mechanisms to support carbon dioxide emission offsets and reductions.

Entrepreneurs interested in participating in the project can purchase bidding documents between August 26 and September 26, 2025. The opening of bidding envelopes is scheduled for December 16, 2025, although this date is subject to change.
