Nakhon Ratchasima: This year, the drought has arrived earlier than expected, leaving Lam Takhong Dam with less than half of its water capacity. The governor of Nakhon Ratchasima has highlighted the severe water shortage affecting the region's dams.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaiwat Chuenkosum, Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, reported a significant decrease in rainfall compared to previous years, resulting in low water storage levels at local dams. As a consequence, farmers are being urged to cease growing a second season of rice. If local residents and farmers refrain from excessive water usage, particularly for non-essential purposes, the remaining water should suffice to sustain the river ecosystems through the dry season.
The water levels at the four major dams in Nakhon Ratchasima Province are critically low, with Lam Takhong Dam in Sikhio District being the most affected. The dam currently holds only 44.107 million cubic meters of water, a mere 15.12% of its full capacity of 314 million cubic meters.
