Dr. Warong Suggests Conclusion Nearing in Thaksin’s Medical Case

Bangkok: Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom, leader of the Thai Phakdee Party, has indicated that the case of Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, who remains critically ill, is nearing its conclusion.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chanchai Issarasenarak, former Democrat MP, along with Dr. Warong and Mr. Somchai Saengkaew, former Senator, attended the court's investigation concerning Mr. Thaksin's situation. Thaksin, sentenced to prison by the Supreme Court, was not detained but instead sent to the Police General Hospital. The investigation revealed irregularities after questioning six witnesses, including officials from the Department of Corrections and the Police General Hospital. Concerns were raised about attempts to prevent media coverage, seen as a constitutional violation. Mr. Chanchai emphasized the need for transparency and indicated plans to reveal evidence regarding Thaksin's medical expenses, which he claims will expose the truth behind the situation.

Dr. Warong highlighted the division of focus into two groups: one related to the Department of Corrections and the other concerning doctors linked to the Corrections Hospital. The investigation assessed the medical condition of Thaksin, initially deemed critical but reportedly improved within two days. The Department of Corrections questioned the authority over decisions to return prisoners to prison or hospital, revealing a lack of clarity and pointing to a document suggesting prior knowledge of Thaksin's transfer to the hospital. The court also probed into the duration of Thaksin's critical condition, which spanned 181 days, questioning whether his symptoms could suddenly resolve.

Furthermore, Dr. Warong mentioned that next week may bring revelations of evidence proving false testimonies in court. Mr. Somchai added that treatment outside prison is not uncommon, with some patients staying in hospitals for extended periods. However, the Corrections Department's failure to act on the court's detention warrant was attributed to a lack of authority, with decisions being left to hospital doctors. The ongoing investigation seeks to clarify these procedural ambiguities.
