Deputy Spokesperson Anukun Promotes Cultural Tourism in Songkhla Province

Songkhla: Deputy Spokesperson Anukun Prueksanusak is actively promoting the historical and cultural attractions of Songkhla Province to stimulate tourism, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and traditional community lifestyles along the Thale Luang route.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anukun, along with a group of media representatives, visited Songkhla to explore significant cultural and Buddhist sites. The focus was on Wat Chathing Phra and Wat Phakho, two of the province's prominent religious landmarks, known for their historical significance and cultural value. Wat Chathing Phra features the Phra Maha That Chedi, a notable brick and coral structure, alongside a reclining Buddha and intricate mural paintings depicting the life of Buddha. An annual celebration for the reclining Buddha and the Phra Maha That Chedi takes place on the 1st waning day of the 6th lunar month.

Wat Phakho, located in the Chumphon Subdistrict, is famous as the home of the revered monk 'Somdet Phakho' or 'Luang Pho Thuat'. This site is steeped in history, housing the Phra Malik Chedi and the Phakho Museum, which displays relics and antiques, including brassware and ceramics. The legend of Luang Pu Thuat stepping on sea water is a key attraction, drawing visitors and believers alike.

Also noteworthy is Wat Ton Lieb, known for its connection to Luang Pu Thuat Yiap Nam Talay Chuet. The temple is home to a sacred tree, believed to be over 500 years old, where a ceremony involving the wrapping of cloth will take place on March 3, 2568, inviting Buddhists to participate.

The Thale Luang route offers a chance to experience eco-tourism, with its abundant biodiversity and connection to Songkhla Lake and Thale Noi. Visitors can enjoy boat trips through peat forests and lotus fields, as well as engage with the local agricultural communities. This initiative aims to showcase the natural and cultural riches of Songkhla Province, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination.
