Department of Religious Affairs Holds Workshop and Awards Ceremony for Buddhist Benefactors in Bangkok

Bangkok: The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) recently held a noteworthy workshop centered on individuals who have contributed to Buddhism in 2024. The event also featured a ceremony to present fans and honorary pins to these individuals.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Culture, was responsible for organizing this workshop and ceremony. It was chaired by Somdej Phra Maha Thirajarn, a member of the Supreme Sangha Council and abbot of Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangklararm. Mr. Chaipol Suk-iam, Director-General of the Department of Religious Affairs, addressed the laity and delivered a lecture on the topic of promoting morality and ethics within the network of benefactors of Buddhism. Mr. Sod Daeng-iet, a recognized benefactor from 2020, also offered insights on how benefactors can support religious activities. The event took place at the Small Auditorium, Thailand Cultural Center, Huai Khwang District, and was attended by various benefactors and officials.

Mr. Chaiyapol Suk-iam elaborated on the purpose of the event, emphasizing the creation of a cooperative network to promote morality and ethics. The ceremony aimed to recognize and build relationships among those who have supported Buddhist activities, fostering tangible benefits for the community. Somdej Phra Maha Thirajarn was highlighted as a key figure in the ceremony, which honored 160 recipients of the Dharmachakra Pillar Award, including 91 monks, 59 laypeople, and 10 organizations.

The Department of Religious Affairs plays a crucial role in promoting morality and religious ethics, particularly among Thai youth. The department has organized various competitions, such as group chanting in praise of the Triple Gem, to encourage educational institutions to help youth express themselves positively. National-level winners and contributors will receive the Dharmachakra pillar and an award plaque from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at a ceremony scheduled for March 3, 2025, at Wat Pathum Wanaram.
