Crackdown on Scammers: Ministry of Justice Orders Proactive Work

Bangkok: Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol responded to the Prime Minister's policy to crack down on scammers and ordered the Ministry of Justice to be proactive. He revealed that several cases have recently been resolved, resulting in over 10 billion baht in damages.

According to Thai News Agency, Justice Minister Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol Naowarat stated that, in line with Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul's policy of elevating the suppression of scammers and call center gangs to a national agenda, he has instructed agencies under the Ministry of Justice to work proactively and integrate with other relevant agencies to urgently prevent threats to the public.

The Minister of Justice highlighted the government's commitment to preventing and suppressing technology-related crimes, including online gambling, money laundering, and scammers. Since taking office, numerous arrests have been made, with damages estimated at tens of billions of baht. Statistics from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) indicate that between September 29 and October 18, 2025, copyright infringement cases linked to the gambling website inwiptv resulted in arrests and prosecutions, with damages estimated at 1 billion baht per year. A human trafficking ring linked to online fraud was investigated on October 8, 2025. Additionally, an online gambling network and three mule accounts were dismantled, with over 2 billion baht in cash flow reported on October 17, 2025. Most recently, a hacking case involving a government agency's website linked to a gambling website was prosecuted. Twenty-three suspects were indicted, with over 20 billion baht in circulation found as of October 18, 2025.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol emphasized the need for the Ministry of Justice to regularly present these statistics to the public and urged the government to raise awareness of online crimes. He compared the effort to the COVID-19 situation in Thailand, where all sectors worked together.

"The Ministry of Justice will not allow Thailand to become a haven for crime, whether it be fraud, deception, or all forms of technology crime. We will focus on suppressing, seizing assets, and pursuing legal action to the fullest extent of the law, in order to implement proactive measures to create a transparent, safe, and just digital society," stated the Minister of Justice.
