Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning indicating that temperatures in northern Thailand are expected to rise, while five southern provinces should brace for potential thunderstorms and heavy rain. Residents in these areas are urged to be cautious, particularly when traveling through flooded regions. According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department reported that the central and lower southern regions of Thailand are likely to experience heavy rain. The provinces of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Ranong, and Phang Nga are specifically advised to prepare for thunderstorms and significant rainfall, which could accumulate over time. The warning is prompted by a strong monsoon trough in the lower southern region, interacting with a moderate northeast monsoon prevailing over the upper Gulf of Thailand, the upper southern region, and the upper Andaman Sea. The department also noted that maritime conditions would be affected, with moderate winds and waves in the upper G ulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, reaching heights of 1-2 meters. Thunderstorm areas could see waves exceeding 2 meters. Mariners in these regions are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas prone to thunderstorms. In terms of temperature, the Meteorological Department forecasts a slight rise in the upper regions of Thailand, although the North, Northeast, and Central areas will continue to experience cool mornings and some light rain. This is attributed to the weakening of a high-pressure area originating from China. Consequently, residents in the North and Northeast are encouraged to take precautions regarding their health in light of these changing weather conditions.
