Bangkok: Chulaphan Amornvivat, the newly elected leader of the Pheu Thai Party, has affirmed that Paethongtarn Shinawatra remains the head of the Pheu Thai family, while executive powers are reserved for the party leader. According to Thai News Agency, Chulaphan, who is also a Chiang Mai MP, discussed the party's strategies and goals following his election, expressing confidence in winning 200 MP seats under his leadership.
Chulaphan emphasized the importance of the Shinawatra family's emotional ties, acknowledging that their ideological roots stem from former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. He clarified that while Paethongtarn holds the familial role, the party's executive decisions rest with its new leadership, which he now heads. Chulaphan also addressed the party's recent challenges, noting that while the previous election did not make them the leading party, efforts are underway to revitalize the party and regain public trust.
Despite setbacks in past policies, such as the incomplete implementation of a 10,000 baht budget, Chulaphan remains optimistic about the party's future. He highlighted the need to adapt and evolve to meet public demands and confirmed that Pheu Thai plans to field three prime ministerial candidates in the upcoming election.
Chulaphan addressed the media's portrayal of the party's struggles, deeming them a normal part of political dynamics. He shared that the party continues to attract new candidates and supporters, with plans to introduce more candidates in the coming weeks. The party is focused on strengthening its political presence and ensuring its policies align with the needs of the people.
Regarding potential collaboration with former party members like Sompong Amornvivat, Chulaphan indicated ongoing discussions. He reiterated the party's commitment to serving all generations and emphasized the importance of selecting candidates that resonate with the public's expectations.
Chulaphan concluded by encouraging constituents to have faith in the party's ability to deliver effective governance and policies. He assured that the Pheu Thai Party is dedicated to becoming a robust political institution capable of addressing the challenges faced by the nation.
