Chinese Tourist Numbers in Chiang Mai Drop Due to Safety Concerns

Chiang Mai: Over the past two years, the number of Chinese tour groups visiting Thailand has been steadily decreasing, particularly in Chiang Mai, where some areas have seen a decline of up to 90% in Chinese tourists. The primary reason behind this drop is believed to be related to reports of crimes in Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, incidents involving Chinese nationals being tricked into working in online call centers have contributed to a perception that Thailand is not a safe destination. This perception has significantly impacted the number of Chinese tourists choosing to visit, particularly affecting the tourism sector in Chiang Mai.

Efforts to address these concerns and improve the safety image of Thailand are expected to be crucial in reversing this trend and encouraging more Chinese tourists to return in the future.
