Chinese National Arrested for Smuggling Starlink Dishes Aimed at Call Center Gang

Mae Sot: Soldiers and police apprehended a Chinese national in possession of 18 boxes of Starlink satellite dishes, raising suspicions of an intended transfer to a call center gang across the border.

According to Thai News Agency, the arrest followed a coordinated operation by the Rajamanu Task Force and the Drug Suppression Operations Unit. The authorities set up a checkpoint at Ban Huai Ya U, Village No. 10, located in the Dan Mae Lamao Subdistrict of Mae Sot District, Tak Province. They stopped a white Isuzu pickup truck with a Lamphun license plate, driven by Mr. Lyu Huangyu, a Chinese national, traveling from Tak Province to Mae Sot District. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to contain crates with Makro and Shopee Food stickers, which, when opened, revealed 38 Starlink satellite receivers.

Inquiries revealed that the items were picked up from Chiang Mai Province, intended for delivery to Mae Sot District. Once there, another party was expected to collect the shipment. It is suspected that the 38 boxes were to be smuggled into Myanmar, specifically for a call center gang operating in Myawaddy District.

The Rajamanu Task Force took immediate action, seizing the equipment and detaining Mr. Lyu Huangyu. He was subsequently handed over to Phawo Police Station for further legal proceedings.
