Cambodian Man Arrested for Robbery of Gold in Samut Prakan Shopping Mall

Samut prakan: Police are taking a Cambodian man to reenact his confession after he used a ping-pong bomb to steal gold from a shopping mall in Samut Prakan Province. He claimed he needed money to return home. According to Thai News Agency, police arrested 31-year-old Cambodian Yong Udom, who allegedly threw giant firecrackers onto the ground to clear a way before firing a homemade Thai gun at a gold display case inside a gold shop in Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan Province. He then climbed up to sweep up 12 gold necklaces, each weighing 2 baht, totaling 24 baht, and tried to put them in a bag to escape, but luck was not on his side as he dropped a single piece of gold in front of the shop. Yong Udom was arrested while attempting to flee across the border to Cambodia by immigration police stationed at the Ban Laem checkpoint in Chanthaburi Province. Police Major General Phumin Singhasut, Commander of Samut Prakan Provincial Police, revealed that the suspect was apprehended quickly. Had he been delayed any longer, he might have fled the country. The suspect was in the process of requesting permission to leave the country, but immigration officers were quick-witted and, seeing his appearance, matched the description provided. They questioned him and identified him as the suspect, who then apprehended him. The suspect confessed that he needed money to return to work in Cambodia. It's believed the incident was premeditated. The weapon used was a firecracker, not a bomb. The firecracker exploded in the man's hand, injuring him. If it had been a bomb, his hand would have been severed. According to inquiries with the gold shop, the items are all intact, though the hook may have been slightly damaged. In short, the perpetrator didn't get anything because he dropped the gold while fleeing. A security guard picked it up and returned it to the shop. I'd like to ask the gold shops to install bars, as perpetrators tend to choose shops without bars, making them easily accessible. Initially, charges of robbery with a fi rearm and all other charges that can be prosecuted are being filed.
