Bhumtham Leads National Legislative Assembly Meeting to Appoint Subcommittees and Review Fiscal Plans

Bangkok: 'Bhumtham' presided over a meeting of the National Legislative Assembly, approving the appointment of a subcommittee for the Northeastern region and two subcommittees for the Central region. He also agreed to review the timeframe for the implementation of plans and budgets for fiscal year 2027 for provinces, provincial groups, and government agencies.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Acting Prime Minister, chaired the second meeting of 2025 for the Integrated Area Administration Policy Committee (IAPPC). The meeting was attended by members from the public, private, and civil society sectors, with Mr. Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, participating as a committee member and secretary.

The Chairman delivered a policy statement at the meeting, stating that this assembly of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) aimed to facilitate the efficient implementation of its missions as per the Integrated Area Administration Royal Decree B.E. 2565 (2022). The meeting considered two primary issues: appointing subcommittees for the Northeastern and Central regions and reviewing the timeframe for implementing plans and budgets for the fiscal year 2027 for provinces and provincial groups.

The assembly approved the formation of two subcommittees each for the Northeastern and Central regions under the NESDB mechanism. The Northeastern Subcommittee comprises 16 members, with Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai as the Subcommittee Chairman. The Central Region Subcommittee consists of 14 members, led by Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Prasert Chantaruangthong. Each subcommittee includes representatives from the National Economic and Social Development Board and the Ministry of Interior.

The Secretariat was tasked with preparing orders for appointing these subcommittees, which will be submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and signature. Provinces and provincial groups are required to submit their revised development plans for 2023-2027 and annual operational plans for fiscal year 2027 by September 30, 2025. This extension, from the previous deadline of July 31, 2025, is due to recent disasters and unrest in border provinces.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of career creation and grassroots economic projects. The central integration team will finalize the plans for fiscal year 2027 by October 2025 before submitting them to regional subcommittees and the NESDB for approval. Additionally, the results of the project's consistency with the annual operational plan for fiscal year 2026 were acknowledged, along with government agencies' project proposals aligned with the 2023-2027 development guidelines.
