Bhumjaithai Government’s Sincere Approach Resolves Thai-Cambodian Border Issues

Bangkok: Praise has been directed at the Bhumjaithai Party government for its "serious and sincere" efforts in addressing and solving longstanding border problems between Thailand and Cambodia. Associate Professor Olan Thinbangtiew, a political scientist from Burapha University, highlighted the smooth signing of cooperation agreements as a testament to the government's commitment to resolving these issues.

According to Thai News Agency, the signing of the cooperation agreement between Thailand, Cambodia, and the United States on October 26, 2025, marked a significant transformation in Southeast Asian relations, particularly in peacebuilding efforts following historical Thai-Cambodian border tensions. The Bhumjaithai Party's approach has been characterized not just as a strategic security solution, but as a demonstration of political responsibility and sincerity, focusing on reconciliation diplomacy that prioritizes national interests and the well-being of citizens.

Before the Bhumjaithai government assumed power, relations between Thailand and Cambodia were strained by deep-seated mistrust, resulting in lost economic opportunities and challenges in regional cooperation. The previous political climate was marred by questions of transparency and hidden agendas. With the rise of the Bhumjaithai Party in 2024-2025, a new policy direction was established, emphasizing independence, transparency, and freedom from personal motives in international relations.

The Bhumjaithai government has prioritized sincerity and transparency in negotiations, ensuring that nothing within the agreements compromises Thailand's sovereignty or economic stability. The agreement underscores principles of equality, respect for international boundaries, and the establishment of a joint observer mission within the ASEAN framework to prevent external interference.

The government is also promoting a border peace economy, transforming conflict zones into opportunities, particularly in provinces such as Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, and Sisaket, which can connect economically and infrastructurally with Cambodia. This strategy not only fosters economic growth but also strengthens ties between communities, paving the way for enduring peace.

Another hallmark of the government's policy is its people-centered approach to diplomacy. The transparent disclosure of the Thailand-Cambodia-US agreement allows citizens to understand and scrutinize its aims of fostering peace rather than making concessions to foreign powers. This transparency builds public trust and enhances state legitimacy on the international stage.

Strategically, the Bhumjaithai government's focus is on peace through shared interests rather than temporary resolutions, maintaining a balance between cooperation with the United States and ASEAN countries, thereby avoiding alignment with any superpower. This reflects a stance of strategic neutrality centered on preserving national interests.

The Bhumjaithai government views peace as a long-term development mechanism, leading the region towards economic, security, and humanitarian cooperation. Ultimately, the resolution of the Thai-Cambodian border conflict stands as a triumph of foreign policy and an embodiment of conflict-free politics aimed at genuine peace.
