Bangkok: Another victim of the now-infamous ‘Rangsit soup-pouring’ incident has emerged, leading to the dismissal of the accused from Bangkok University.
According to Thai News Agency, the university has taken decisive action to expel the ‘soup-pouring man’ from student status, while police have uncovered additional victims, bringing the total number of affected individuals to four.
The case involves a student from a renowned university in the Rangsit area who was reportedly assaulted by a senior peer. The assault involved pouring hot soup on the victim, resulting in injuries and blisters. Additionally, the victim’s hair was shaved, and they were threatened and extorted for money. Khlong Luang Police Station has arrested the accused, 22-year-old Mr. Rasipha, also known as ‘Pim,’ and 19-year-old Mr. Chakatphon, known as ‘Oshi.’ Both are facing charges of joint extortion and assault causing physical and mental harm.
Police investigations have led to another victim coming forward, although their case was reportedly less severe than the previous four incidents. Authorities anticipate more victims may surface soon. Investigators are ready to work with these victims to file charges before the suspects are taken to court for detention. While the primary charges involve assault and extortion, police have not found evidence to support claims of other alleged crimes, such as being part of an organized gang or illegal e-cigarette sales. Despite rumors of high-level police involvement, no such connections have been substantiated.
In an interview, Mr. Rasipha’s mother expressed her distress and remorse for her son’s actions. She apologized to society for her perceived failures in parenting and stated she would not post bail, allowing the legal process to proceed.
Bangkok University released a statement announcing the disciplinary actions taken against those involved in the incident. The governing committee unanimously decided to dismiss the student responsible for the assault, effective February 10, 2025. The university emphasized its stance against violence and assured strict adherence to its regulations to maintain safety and fairness within its community.
