Police Rescue Four Victims Tricked into Opening Mule Accounts

Sa Kaeo: Police quickly intervened to assist four individuals who were deceived into opening mule accounts by a call center gang. The victims, three women from Krabi and one man from Prachin Buri, shared their experiences with the media after being rescued, just before they were taken across the border to Cambodia for a facial scan to receive supposed payments.

According to Thai News Agency, the victims were lured by an acquaintance with the promise of online work. On February 7, they traveled to Bangkok with seven other friends, under the pretense of securing jobs. They were instructed to open bank accounts, with the promise of receiving 5,000 baht per account, contingent upon completing a facial scan. The following day, the group was taken to a hotel in Aranyaprathet, where a group of individuals arranged for the opening of bank accounts and prohibited them from contacting their families. Sensing danger, one of the victims managed to reach out to her daughter, who coordinated with the police to secure their release. Despite the successful rescue, some victims were hesitant to escape from the situation orchestrated by the criminals.
