Arrest Warrants Issued for Couple Linked to Former Abbot of Wat Rai Khing

Sam Phran: Arrested! Two husband and wife, close associates of the former abbot of Wat Rai Khing, who were in control of the accounts for the annual fair auction and welfare shops, after the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct issued arrest warrants.

According to Thai News Agency, officers from the Crime Suppression Division 5, joined forces to arrest a couple closely associated with Mr. Yaem, the former abbot of Wat Rai Khing. The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases approved an arrest warrant on multiple charges, including money laundering and supporting an official involved in embezzlement. The couple was apprehended at the Buddhist Scout Camp of the Luang Por Wat Rai Khing Foundation in Sam Phran District, Nakhon Pathom Province, and subsequently taken for questioning at the Anti-Corruption and Misconduct Division (ACD).

In addition to the couple, investigators have requested the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct to issue an arrest warrant for a former temple boy close to Tid Yaem, who is currently held in the Bangkok Special Prison. The authorities are coordinating with the prison to prosecute him on an additional charge as investigations have revealed his involvement in the corruption scheme.

Officers escorted the two suspects to the Anti-Corruption Division later in the evening. Despite attempts by reporters to question them about their involvement in the temple embezzlement, the suspects remained silent. The arresting team disclosed that both suspects appeared extremely stressed during custody and admitted their guilt.
