Appointing “Phra Phromwachiranrangsi” as Acting Abbot of Wat Trithatthep

Bangkok: The abbot of Regions 1-2-3 (Thammayut) has announced the appointment of Phra Phromwachirarangsi as the acting abbot of Wat Trithatthep. This decision follows reports that Chao Khun Ach, the former abbot, disrobed at a temple in Nong Khai Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the appointment was made in response to the vacancy at Wat Trithotsathep. Phra Phromwachirarangsi, who has been a monk for 51 years and is the abbot of Wat Bowonniwet as well as the leader of the Bangkok Sangha (Thammayut), has been entrusted with this new responsibility under the authority granted by Section 4 of the Sangha Supreme Council's regulations.

The order was prompted by reports of Phra Thep Wachirapamok, also known as Chao Khun Achwa, disrobing at Wat Chan Samakkhi (Thammayut) in Nong Khai Province on June 29, 2015. The event occurred at 2:45 p.m., and a formal letter was sent to the Office of Buddhism to confirm the disrobing.
