‘Anutin’ Hits Back at ‘Phumtham’: Which Ministry Do the People Want to Adjust?

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, responded to comments made by Phumtham Vejjayachai, deputy leader of the Pheu Thai Party, regarding a cabinet reshuffle. Phumtham explained that the Pheu Thai Party needs to manage the Ministry of Interior to effectively implement government policies. Anutin questioned which policies of the Bhumjaithai Party were not being addressed and asserted that the Ministry of Interior had been pushing forward with all policies, except those that violated the law, such as online gambling.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin clarified that the proposal to allow the Ministry of Interior to transfer power across ministries was deemed illegal by the Office of the Council of State. He argued that the accusation of policy violation was unfair, emphasizing that the Ministry of Interior has numerous responsibilities, such as organizing society, suppressing influential figures, controlling firearms, and assisting people during crises.

Anutin highlighted the ministry's accomplishments, including better organization of gun licenses, the closure of illegal entertainment venues and gambling dens, and support for drug arrests. He dismissed claims of overstepping boundaries, stating that the ministry's actions were aimed at problem-solving through integration. He also mentioned his proactive role during disasters and efforts to improve infrastructure based on firsthand assessments.

Anutin further questioned whether the Ministry of Interior was truly a target for adjustment, pointing to a poll indicating that the Ministry of Defense was the one people wanted to see changes in. Regarding the Bhumjaithai Party's stance on casinos, Anutin expressed concerns about their economic benefits, distribution of income, and potential social issues. He noted that some coalition parties were hesitant to support casino policies, and he felt fortunate to have openly shared his perspective on the matter.
