7 Dangerous Days of Songkran See Tragic Accidents in Nonthaburi and Beyond


Nonthaburi: Campaign to monitor the 7 dangerous days of Nonthaburi Province during this year’s Songkran Festival, resulting in 2 deaths. Last night, there were two consecutive accidents in Nonthaburi Province, resulting in both fatalities and injuries. The first incident occurred at the entrance of Soi Tiwanon-Pak Kret 46. At the scene, the body of Ms. Phakjira, 21 years old (the driver) was found dead. Her face was disfigured. Nearby, a black motorcycle was found stuck against an electric pole. The front of the motorcycle was badly damaged. In addition, another injured person was found, Ms. Naphasorn, 21 years old (the pillion passenger). The rescue team from the Chonlaprathan Hospital took her to the hospital for treatment.



According to Thai News Agency, another incident occurred in the area of Muang Nonthaburi Police Station. Police were notified that a motorcycle had crashed into the back of a sedan, resulting in a fatality. The incident occurred on Tiwanon Road, at the entrance to Soi Tiwanon 3. At the scene, the body of Mr. Apiwat, 29, an employee of a bank, was found lying dead next to a blue motorcycle. The front of the vehicle was badly damaged. The other party was a black car parked on the side of the rear and had been hit.



In a separate incident, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Samut Prakan City Police officers received a report of a motorcycle accident where a motorcycle crashed into an electric pole, resulting in a fatality, on the side of Sukhumvit Road in front of the Mali Milk Factory in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province. At the scene, the body of one deceased person was found, Ms. Yenjit, aged 55, with a large head wound and a lot of bleeding. Nearby, a blue-black motorcycle with a broken headlight was found lying on the sidewalk. Initially, officers assumed that the deceased was riding at high speed and fell into a ditch before losing control and crashing into an electric pole. However, officers will review nearby CCTV footage to determine if there was another party involved.



Tragedy also struck in Chanthaburi, where last night at 11:40 p.m., an accident occurred on Yanwirot Road, outbound, Village 10, Khom Bang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chanthaburi Province. At the scene of the accident, the body of one deceased male was found, Mr. Jirapat, 23 years old, a volunteer rescuer for the Khlung Foundation. He was lying dead in the middle of the road with severe wounds to his abdomen, face, and several parts of his body. The motorcycle the deceased was riding was badly damaged, with pieces scattered. Witnesses said that the deceased was riding his motorcycle to overtake a pickup truck carrying mangosteens, but was unable to do so and hit the back of the pickup truck carrying mangosteens before losing control and crossing the lane to collide with a durian truck driving in the opposite direction. The drivers of both pickup trucks were waiting to give statements at the scene.
