Ministry inks cooperation with domestic defense industry

The Defense Ministry signed a cooperation contract with domestic defense industry players, both state-owned and private enterprises, on the sidelines of the Indo Defense 2022 Expo and Forum at JIExpo Kemayoran on Wednesday.

President Joko Widodo and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto witnessed the signing of the contract, which is divided into four agreements.

The first is a defense equipment contract for the production of 6 thousand units of electric motorcycles by state-owned enterprise defense holding Defend ID and 3 thousand jeeps by PT Pindad Persero.

The second involves the procurement of medical equipment and the construction of 27 units of Army, Navy, and Air Force hospitals spread across Indonesia, which will involve 6 state-owned enterprises and 10 private companies.

The third is a Local Content and Offset agreement, which represents the value of the benefits obtained by the domestic industry from 20 contracts for the procurement of defense equipment from overseas during 2019–2022 with a total Local Content and Offset value of Rp 67.5 trillion.

The fourth is a cooperation agreement for the development of propellant raw materials by two SOEs as part of the ministry’s commitment to developing domestic industries, especially upstream industries, in order to reduce dependence on imports of raw materials.

The entire cooperation is a form of the ministry’s commitment to pursuing an advanced, strong, independent, and competitive local defense industry, in accordance with President Widodo’s directive to ensure that every defense expenditure serves as an investment in defense for national economic recovery and growth.

“The President expects that defense technology will develop rapidly and we must immediately follow suit and must fight hard,” Minister Subianto said.

Meanwhile, the president director of PT Napindo Media Ashatama, Arya Seta, said that on the first day of the event, as many as 19 companies inked cooperation with the domestic defense industry and the foreign defense industry.

As many as 905 companies from 59 countries are participating in the defense expo.

“So, it can be seen that the transition period from pandemic to endemic has been utilized very well indeed by the industry for them to continue business activities in Indo Defense. This does not diminish the interest of companies from overseas,” Seta noted.

During the expo, foreign delegates were also urged to conduct activities in the “G to G” format.

He said that the expo’s activities are being hosted at different locations, namely JIExpo Kemayoran, Pondok Dayung (North Jakarta) and Halim Perdanakusuma to accommodate industries from three spaces: land, air, and sea.

“We want to display static aircraft in real terms. At JIExpo Kemayoran it is not possible, so we expect for the public who wants to see static aircraft or static naval ships in Indonesia, they can go to the rowing lodge and can go to Halim Perdanakusuma right away. The activity will take place on November 3 to 4, 2022,” he added.

Police use of tear gas triggered Kanjuruhan stampede: Komnas HAM

The National Commission of Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has determined the firing of tear gas by police as the main trigger for the October 1, 2022, stampede at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang district, East Java province.

The incident claimed 135 lives.

“This has indeed been our standing point from the start. Tear gas was the main trigger for the deaths, injuries, or trauma,” a member of the commission, Choirul Anam, said at a press conference on the results of Komnas HAM’s investigation into the Kanjuruhan tragedy at the Komnas HAM Office here on Wednesday.

At least 135 people died and hundreds of others were injured or traumatized, either directly or indirectly, in the tragedy, he noted.

Tear gas can be deadly if used in certain spaces and under certain conditions, such as the firing of tear gas at Kanjuruhan Stadium, which took place in a relatively closed space that was crowded with football match spectators, he said.

He also pointed out that the firing of tear gas at spectators in the football stadium’s stands, in particular, caused many people to panic and suffocate, which led to their death.

“Shooting at the stands and so on had caused panic. From that panic, many also experienced shortness of breath and so on, while they tried to rush to the door through steep stairs. There, they fell, were injured, and died,” he added.

Earlier, Komnas HAM member Beka Ulung Hapsara said that Komnas HAM has estimated that the police fired tear gas 45 times.

“It is estimated that tear gas was fired 45 times in the stadium during this incident,” he noted.

Of the 45 total shots, 27 tear gas shots were seen in the video received by Komnas HAM and another 18 shots were confirmed by sound.

Regarding those who fired the tear gas, he said that they were a joint team of personnel drawn from the East Java Police’s Mobile Brigade and the Samapta Bhayangkara (Sabhara) police unit.

On October 14, a joint independent fact-finding team (TGIPF) established by the government submitted the results of its investigation into the Kanjuruhan tragedy to President Joko Widodo.

The team reported that the firing of tear gas by the police inside the stadium triggered the deadly stampede that killed 135 people, mostly fans of Arema FC of Malang. Among the dead were 33 children.

West Nusa Tenggara Museum to hold exhibition during WSBK

The West Nusa Tenggara Public Museum will hold an exhibition to enliven the World Superbike (WSBK) event at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit from November 11–13, 2022.

“This exhibition is an alternative for spectators, including tourists visiting West Nusa Tenggara, who will watch WSBK at the Mandalika Circuit,” head of the West Nusa Tenggara Museum, Ahmad Nuralam, said here on Wednesday.

The exhibition will be held from November 9–15 at the West Nusa Tenggara Public Museum Hall in Mataram city.

Nuralam said the exhibition will trace the development of tools and technologies used by humans over time.

“The exhibition is also a place to promote the culture and history of West Nusa Tenggara, such as introducing the three major tribes that inhabit the two big islands in the province,” he added.

The exhibition aligns with the priority industrialization program carried out by the West Nusa Tenggara provincial government, he said.

Technological tools created by the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) and vocational high schools (SMKs) across the province will be showcased at the exhibition, too.

“The exhibition will display the evolution of technological equipment from the era of mechanical drives to the era of electric drives, such as a horse-driven dogcart, an electric dogcart, a pedaled bicycle to an electric bicycle,” he informed.

The exhibition is divided into three sub-themes, with the first being home appliance technology such as hand axes, coconut grating machines, scales, and wall clocks.

Meanwhile, sub-theme two will cover technology used in production. In operation, simple technology requires a lot of human power while modern technology uses machines and does not require a lot of human labor.

“The collections are yarn spinners, looms, sewing machines, and seeds grinding machinery,” he said.

Further, sub-theme three covers transportation technology used by humans to travel from one location to another. The history of transportation modes dates back to the discovery of wheels around 3,500 BC.

CINCINNATI, Nov. 01, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — University of Cincinnati (UC) Online is pleased to announce a new nature-based early learning concentration in the Associate and Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Age 5) programs.

UC is the first university in the United States to offer nature-based, online early childhood education degrees.

“Nature-based learning in the early childhood education (ECE) profession is growing,” says UC’s Program Coordinator Kathleen Bryan. “The laboratory child development center at UC, the Arlitt Center for Education, Research, and Sustainability, is one of the oldest in the United States and is at the forefront for demonstrating practice in this field.”

Bryan says research affirms children’s need to be immersed in nature to learn about the world around them and develop a sustainability ethic for the Earth. “This degree will equip our students with environmental knowledge, eco-pedagogies, and resources to teach and administer formal and informal learning settings where nature is embraced — from programs with green playgrounds to forest schools,” Bryan says.

Bryan believes the nature-based emphasis of UC Online’s degrees will benefit educators by equipping them with needed skills. Bryan says, “Studies show teachers need environmental knowledge and pedagogies to effectively engage children in nature-based learning that reflects best practices in the field.”

The curriculum builds on the essential developmentally appropriate practices core of the UC Online programs:

  • Implementing a play-based approach to learning.
  • Supporting children to reach their full potential across all domains of development.
  • Designing and implementing high-quality learning environments.
  • Inclusive of all families to be culturally, linguistically, and ability appropriate.

The aim is for graduates to become comfortable in the role of teacher/naturalist educators who can plan and implement progressive and interdisciplinary curricula in natural settings in ways that view children as capable, able to problem-solve, and make decisions that affect their own lives.

Coursework builds upon professional practice standards and research studies — specifically, studies conducted on teachers’ and children’s experiences in nature playscapes and at a nature preschool by faculty and researchers at the Arlitt Center. This research was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation.

According to the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), over the past three years, nature-based preschools, forest kindergartens, and outdoor preschools in the U.S. have more than doubled to 585. Nature preschools can be found in nearly every state in the nation. Over the past decade, this growth represents a nearly 25-fold increase in nature-based schools.*

About UC Online and the ECE Degrees

More than 20 years ago, UC became one of the first U.S. institutions to offer online courses. UC Online’s BSEd in Early Childhood Care & Education is ranked as the 2nd Best Online Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education by TheBestSchools.org. The AAS in Early Childhood Care & Education program is consistently ranked as a Top 15 Best Online Associate in ECE.

Accruent Releases Easily Implemented Energy Management Solution for Facilities of All Types

The smart energy management solution provides users with the data they need to effectively manage risk, reach energy consumption targets, lower costs, and meet carbon-neutral goals

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 01, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Accruent, the leading provider of solutions to unify the built environment, today announced the release of Accruent Observe for Energy Management. The powerful smart energy management solution will provide users with the data they need to monitor energy consumption, combat rising costs, meet carbon-neutral goals, and remain agile in today’s volatile energy market. Better energy management decision-making will ultimately help organizations remain competitive and reduce the need to pass their own energy expenditures on to their customers in the form of higher prices.

Accruent Observe for Energy Management will help users accomplish these goals with forward-thinking features like:

  • Holistic energy consumption dashboards and alerting for proactive responses to consumption anomalies
  • Automated workflows triggered by energy bills, meter data, and high energy-consuming assets
  • Project tracking and baseline modeling for accurate consumption measurement
  • Weather normalization to help create facility benchmarks and consistent points of comparison among facilities
  • Smart alerts to “cut through the noise” and simplify proactive decision-making

In addition, because Accruent Observe Energy Management is built on the device-agnostic vx Observe platform, implementation can be faster and easier than many other energy management solutions. For organizations with multiple locations containing similar assets, additional locations can be brought online in a matter of minutes. Such an ability to implement quickly and successfully can significantly reduce the time needed for users to recognize value by actively managing energy consumption and spend.

This functionality is crucial in today’s market, as organizations around the globe look closely at their energy profiles and search for opportunities to increase resilience, decarbonize, reduce risk, and lower costs. In this context, a smart energy management solution like Accruent Observe for Energy Management could even hold the key to unlocking the potential of greater grid interactivity and breaking down current energy management barriers and pressures.

Of the release, Adrian Turner, Accruent’s Senior Director of Product Management, explains, “Managing energy spending and understanding your organization’s Co2 impact is increasingly important. As organizations across the world wrestle with ambitious operational and sustainability commitments, it’s more critical than ever that they choose the right solution to help their journey.”

About Accruent: Accruent (www.accruent.com) is the world’s leading provider of intelligent solutions for the built environment – spanning real estate, physical and digital assets, and the integrated technology systems that connect and control them.
