Philips debuts new AI-enhanced informatics solutions to increase diagnostic confidence with intelligence at every step of the radiology workflow at RSNA

November 28, 2022

  • Philips introduces next-generation Advanced Visualization Workspace, including new cardiac MR Suite with new workflow and user interface, new AI powered CT ASPECT Scoring, and enhanced CT Liver Analysis applications [1]
  • New integrated diagnostic approach connects radiology, cardiology, pathology, and oncology to securely unite data and images across the enterprise, enabling earlier and more definitive diagnosis
  • Optimized algorithms help speed up imaging, enabling interpretation of massive datasets in seconds to drive diagnostic and operational efficiency

Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Chicago, USA – At this week’s Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting (November 27 – December 1, Chicago, USA), Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, will highlight its latest diagnostic and pathway informatics portfolio featuring end-to-end solutions to enable earlier and more definitive diagnosis. With simple and more efficient connected workflows, Philips’ solutions help reduce variability and staff workload, increase productivity, and enhance the patient and physician experience.

“At this year’s RSNA, Philips will showcase how our informatics solutions use intelligence to provide patient-centric insights, integrate advanced visualization tools into the workflow and support clinical collaboration to speed up the detection of diseases by leveraging intelligence everywhere along the patient care journey,” said Reema Poddar, General Manager, Diagnostic and Pathway Informatics at Philips. “We are uniquely positioned to apply new, optimized algorithms to massive data sets to provide prescriptive analytics to our customers, helping them improve both clinical and operational efficiencies within their organizations.”

New Advanced Visualization Workspace powered by AI
At RSNA, Philips will introduce its next-generation Advanced Visualization Workspace platform with AI-enabled algorithms and workflows. This latest innovation is vendor-neutral, providing a single, advanced platform for multiple modalities across cardiology, oncology, neurology, and radiology with a comprehensive suite of advanced visualization solutions to support care teams, and tailored to fit the needs of any hospital network, from a single workstation to an enterprise solution.

Philips Advanced Visualization Workspace now includes more than 70 clinical applications for clinical insights, designed to support workflow and diagnostic confidence as well as automated processing for multiple clinical domains across the continuum of care. New applications include the MR cardiac suite, an all-in-one environment for cardiac MR, providing one overview for all imaging data types to support diagnosis and report creation.

The new AI-powered CT ASPECT (Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score) scoring feature [1] indicates early signs of brain infarction on non-contrast CT scans for the management of ischemic stroke patients. The application automatically identifies ASPECTS regions of the brain via AI and generates an ASPECT score sent directly to the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System). New features also include enhanced CT Liver Analysis [1], with tools to analyze and quantify the whole liver, liver segments, and user-defined regions of interest.

Integrated radiology workflow solutions improve clinical and operational efficiencies
Operational inefficiencies continue to challenge hospital systems as they strive to deliver the best care for patients. Optimizing clinical workflows can help eliminate waste and increase efficiency to help improve patient flow and deliver high-quality care. With the patient at the center, Philips takes a systems view of diagnostic imaging with smart user interfaces and workspaces to help improve patient caseload management, image acquisition, results interpretation, communication of findings, clinical collaboration, and follow-up.

Visitors to the Philips booth (#6730) at RSNA will experience the expanded Philips Radiology Workflow, a combination of solutions that support clear and efficient radiology workflows. Designed as vendor-neutral, the solution components are AI-enabled and can be implemented in any radiology department to assist customers by automating or accelerating routine and repetitive tasks and help to generate insights from large amounts of data.

In addition to the latest Advanced Visualization Workspace, at RSNA, Philips will debut the new Radiology Information System (RIS) natively integrated into Philips Image Management  Vue PACS. This new administrative and clinical workflow management solution allows the entire radiology department and ancillary users to enter, store, view, manage and transfer patient information with a quick and easy-to-use web solution. The newest release of RIS also expands patient-oriented functionalities, allowing patients to self-schedule their exams from the web, while the patient kiosk application gives patients the opportunity to check in when they arrive at their healthcare facility.

Philips will also demonstrate how it combines the power of AI with deep clinical knowledge to create solutions that integrate into the workflows of healthcare providers and people’s daily health routines. Philips’ AI-enabled PACS provides automatic analysis of medical data and extraction of relevant information to generate meaningful – and actionable – insights that enable more precise and personalized patient care. It also allows access to a large portfolio of validated third-party AI algorithms that integrate seamlessly into the existing radiology workflow.

Philips launches new compact ultrasound system at RSNA 2022, allowing first-time-right diagnosis for more patients

November 28, 2022

  • New Ultrasound Compact System 5000 Series delivers premium image quality needed to aid in a confident diagnosis in a portable unit
  • Compatibility with Philips ultrasound systems Affiniti and EPIQ transducers, user interface, workflow, and automation tools allows an easy learning curve for advanced and novice users alike
  • Integration with Philips Collaboration Live adds advanced telemedicine capabilities for remote clinical support and training

Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Chicago, USA – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced the global launch of a next-generation compact portable ultrasound solution at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting (November 27 – December 1, Chicago, USA). Philips’ new Compact 5000 Series aims to bring the diagnostic quality associated with premium cart-based ultrasound systems to more patients. Designed for portability and versatility without compromising image quality or performance, the Compact 5000 series facilitates first-time-right ultrasound exams for more patients.

Replicating the intuitive user interface and workflow of Philips’ cart-based systems EPIQ Elite and Affiniti, and offering full compatibility with these systems’ transducers, Ultrasound Compact 5000 Series supports an easy learning curve for users. Designed for shared service capabilities across specialties including cardiovascular, obstetrics and gynecology, point of care, and general imaging, Ultrasound Compact 5000 Series system helps meet the needs of multiple clinical segments. Designed for portability, the Compact system can be configured with an optional battery allowing for 2.5 hours of scanning time and 20% faster power-up capability [1] to quickly ready the system at the patient’s side when every second counts. Additionally, the new system features 33% fewer hard keys on the console [2], and a fully sealed control panel for easy disinfection and cleaning protocols.

“Improving patient outcomes and the patient experience means providing clinicians with our best diagnostic tools available and making advanced technology available wherever the patient is located,” said Jeff Cohen, General Manager of Ultrasound at Philips. “With the patient at the center of everything we do, we built the Ultrasound Compact System 5000 Series to perform as a highly versatile portable ultrasound system to be used in multiple care settings for many different types of exams without compromising image quality, diagnostic ability, or clinical workflow.”

“The Compact system gives me superb image quality for such a small portable system, providing us with the results we need,” said Dr. Marcela Böhm-VélezMD, Weinstein Imaging Associates, Pittsburgh, USA. “We find the system to be extremely user-friendly, particularly as it matches that of our EPIQ Elites we also have in our clinic. With the added battery, it also gives us the flexibility to move between patients more quickly.”

Premium quality ultrasound imaging has previously been confined to larger cart-based systems, which while technically portable, are typically located within a specific department.  This often means that patients need to be moved from a hospital ward to the appropriate department for their ultrasound exams, which can negatively impact the patient experience and create logistical problems that limit patient throughput. The portability of the new Ultrasound Compact 5000 Series brings quality ultrasound to the patient wherever they are located in the hospital, with advanced features not typically found on a portable system, including AI-powered automation tools.

This newest innovative system also features Philips Collaboration Live secure real-time telemedicine software, with the ability to call on additional clinical expertise via secure voice, text, screen sharing, and video streaming from anywhere with a mobile or internet connection. Collaboration Live even allows a remote user to control the unit’s settings to acquire diagnostic quality images, reducing the need for follow-up scans and patients having to travel to a central hospital facility [3].

Philips Ultrasound Compact System 5000 Series complements Philips’ comprehensive portfolio of diagnostic ultrasound systems for every level of care and clinical setting, ranging from its ultra-mobile Lumify Handheld Ultrasound and hand-carried tablet InnoSight, and value-based ClearVue ultrasound systems, to its high-end and premium ultrasound Affiniti and EPIQ Elite systems. The Compact 5000 Series, which recently received FDA 510(k) clearance and pending CE mark, joins Philips’ expanded ultrasound family with the added benefit of EPIQ Elite and Affiniti workflow commonality and lifetime value.

Visitors to the Philips booth (#6730) at RSNA can view the new Ultrasound Compact 5000 Series in action with live scanning. To learn more about the latest smart connected AI-enabled imaging systems, integrated diagnostics, and connected workflow solutions from Philips aimed at advancing the ability to secure first-time-right precision diagnosis and treatment, visit Philips at RSNA 2022 or virtually via the Philips interactive online radiology experience and follow @PhilipsLiveFrom for #RSNA22 updates throughout the event.

NWTN UAE Electric Vehicle Assembly Facility to Be Completed in Q4

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 28, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — NWTN Inc. (Nasdaq: NWTN), an eco-conscious mobility technology company bringing passenger-centric green premium mobility solutions to the world, today announced that construction on its UAE electric vehicle assembly facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KEZAD) is on schedule and will be completed in Q4 of 2022.

NWTN signed a lease agreement with KEZAD Group for the facility, which measures approximately 270,000 square feet, in September of 2022 to establish NWTN’s first EV assembly facility in Abu Dhabi. The facility will serve the growing demand for sustainable transport options in the Middle East and beyond, and will play an important role in promoting new energy mobility and sustainable energy transformation in the UAE and the Middle East.

Founded in 2016, NWTN is headquartered in the UAE and aims to integrate avant-garde design, life-style personalization, IoT connectivity, autonomous driving technology, and green energy eco-systems to its future mobility solutions.

NWTN plans to initially operate the facility for manufacturing, research and development, vehicle testing and logistics area. Since obtaining approval from KEZAD Group for the required modifications and the industrial license in October, NWTN has completed 80% of the equipment installation and tooling in the facility, including the robots used for the vision system and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) calibration. The full semi-knock down (SKD) management and operations team will be in place by the middle of December, 2022, and the facility will be fully operational by the end of this year.

The annual capacity of the facility will initially be 5,000-10,000 units for the semi-knock down electric vehicles to meet rapidly increasing demand for new energy vehicles and sustainable transport options in the UAE and in other nations in the Middle East and North Africa. In phase two, NWTN will introduce several new electric vehicle models and expand capacity to 50,000 units annually with an expected start date in the first quarter of 2024.

The development of NWTN’s EV assembly facility has gained strong support from the UAE government and agencies, and is fully aligned with UAE’s “Net Zero 2050” strategic initiative that plans to achieve net-zero emission by 2050 with investments of over 600 billion Dirhams (US$160 billion) in renewable energy and sustainable technologies. The completion and future expansion of NWTN’s facility will kick off the long-term development of the local electric vehicle research and development, manufacturing, supply chain establishment, and further into innovations in energy generation, usage, transportation and storage in the region.

With increasing accessibility and affordability of sustainable energy supported by infrastructures such as NWTN’s KEZAD plant, the UAE’s transformation towards a sustainable and intelligent future will be significantly accelerated.

NWTN recently completed a merger with East Stone Acquisition Corporation, a publicly traded special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), and was listed on the NASDAQ exchange on November 14.

Literacy becomes foundation for development of human resourcesn

Public’s literacy level became the foundation for the development of quality human resources for the nation’s prosperity, Head of the National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando stated here, Monday.

Public literacy index improvement activities became one of the efforts to support improvement in the quality of human resources that aligns with the central government’s vision and mission as described within the Mid-Term National Development Program (RPJMN).

This is because the foundation of development of human resources is access to reading material, both printed and digital, to acquire knowledge and technology.

Improving innovation and creativity can create jobs for boosting the people’s prosperity and national development that is the definition of quality human resources, he noted.

“Obtaining quality human resources is difficult without awareness to search for knowledge through reading. Thus, printed books are still necessary since digital reading material comes from printed materials,” he remarked.

He urged everyone to improve Indonesians’ literacy, specifically those in Bengkulu, since the high literacy rate can drive the people’s prosperity and nation’s development.

Bando affirmed that library is the bulwark of democracy wherein it serves as a source of knowledge for various elements of society.

Meanwhile, Governor of Bengkulu Rohidin Mersyah revealed that the Benkulu provincial government plans to form the regional library Regional Integrated Service Unit (UPTD), so that it can focus on improving public literacy.

“We also strive to develop an independent library, with a representative building, to realize an inclusive library for everyone,” he remarked.

The literacy rate of residents in Bengkulu is still very low as can be seen by the number of people still easily swayed by information that is not necessarily true.

“Bengkulu residents’ reading capability is already good, especially in social media. However, their processing skills are still low, given that they still like to read hoax,” he remarked.

Police urged to conduct gender-based sorting of murder cases

The National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) encouraged the police and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) to sort data on murder cases based on gender, victim and perpetrator relationship, and motive.

“Murder case sorting based on gender is not yet available, both in the police and BPS,” Chief of Komnas Perempuan Andy Yentriyani noted at an event titled “Femicide Knowledge Unveiling: Silent Disappearance” streamed online on Monday.

According to Yentriyani, this database is important to encourage better efforts in handling violence against women in future and the fulfillment of victims’ rights to justice.

The commission explained that femicide is the most extreme form of violence against women that leads to murder, both directly and indirectly, as the victim is a woman.

“This is driven by superiority, domination, hegemony, and misogyny against women, the perpetrator’s sense of ownership over women,” she explained.

In several cases of femicide that occurred, there was often a sense of satisfaction and sadistic action against victims, she stated.

“When femicide occurs, it is not uncommon that there is a layered violation, sadistical actions, and social inequality that revolved around the crime,” she remarked.

To delve into femicide, Komnas Perempuan conducted a study on femicide from 10 countries: the Netherlands, Guatemala, India, the UK, Malaysia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Spain, and Turkey.

The commission not only analyzes the form of femicide handling in the 10 countries but also good practices that these countries implemented, Yentriyani noted.

These will be used as a stepping stone to develop policy recommendations for the legal system in Indonesia, she stated.

Earlier, at a press conference in Jepara, Central Java, Friday, Yentriyani noted that the commission had logged 3,081 reports of violence against women during the period from January to early November this year.

Minister lists 9 inflation control measures for regions

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian on Monday listed nine key measures for controlling inflation at the regional level.

“The nine measures can serve as a guide for regions to control inflation,” he said here.

According to the minister, the first step is monitoring prices and stocks to ensure their availability, followed by holding a technical meeting of the regional inflation control task force (TPID).

“Because (controlling inflation) is impossible to be done by the regional government alone, (but this effort) involves Bank Indonesia, Statistics Indonesia, then the National Defense Force, National Police, distributors, and others,” he said.

The next step is maintaining the supply of basic commodities and key goods, he added. Then, pursuing the initiative to plant commodities such as shallots, chilies, and so on.

Yet another effort is carrying out low-cost market operations with the relevant agencies, he said. The regional governments and regional inflation control task forces can also inspect markets and distributors so that they do not hoard or withhold goods, he added.

Then, regional administrations need to coordinate with commodity-producing regions to ensure smooth supply, he said.

“Then, you can also carry out budget instruments, like (unexpected spending) and social assistance. Also, transportation assistance from the regional budget; there are two percent of the general transfer funds allocated by the Finance Ministry for the regions. This is so that general allocation funds and profit-sharing funds can control inflation,” Karnavian explained.
