Yu Banlang Thapthimdaeng Clinches Thailand’s First Gold in Taekwondo at World University Games

Rhine-ruhr: Yu Banlang Thapthimdaeng, a prominent Thai national taekwondo athlete, has secured the first gold medal for Thailand at the World University Games. Competing in the men's 68 kg category, Banlang showcased his prowess and determination to triumph over his competitors.

According to Thai News Agency, the event took place in the Rhine-Ruhr region, Germany, marking the 32nd edition of the World University Games. Banlang, known for his past victory as a gold medalist in the 2022 Asian Games, faced his familiar adversary Liang Yuchue from China in the final round. The two athletes had previously encountered each other at the Asian Games, where Banlang emerged victorious.

In a gripping match, Banlang demonstrated strategic mastery to secure a 2-1 victory with scores of 10-6, 5-5, and 5-4. This victory not only underscored his skill but also earned him the distinction of winning the first gold medal for Thai intellectual athletes at this prestigious competition.

The World University Games are set to continue until July 27, offering a platform for athletes worldwide to showcase their talents.
