Young Businessman Falls Victim to 50 Million Baht Lottery Scam

Bangkok: A young businessman reported to the police after being tricked into investing in a lottery scam, resulting in 50 million baht in damages. He revealed that the person who tricked him created a credible profile and referred to a famous senior figure.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. A (pseudonym), aged 53, traveled to file a complaint with the investigation officer at Sam Sen Police Station to prosecute the person who invited him to invest in the government lottery business, claiming that if he invested, he would receive good returns.

Mr. A revealed that he is a businessman by profession and has a friend who studied at the same institute. They have known each other for a long time, and this friend introduced him to a man. This man invited him to invest in the government lottery business, claiming that if he invested, he would get good returns. The man created a credible profile by referring to a senior figure in a famous and well-known organization, including knowing many senior figures who are famous in various fields. This created trust, and Mr. A began investing.

The investment started in 2022. The first investment was 10 million baht. Then, according to the agreement and the contract that was agreed upon, the man sent the government lottery tickets as agreed. But after about 3-5 months, the man claimed that there was a problem with the lottery and asked to wait. He kept postponing the delivery of the lottery tickets. Until now, three years have passed, and the lottery tickets have not been received as agreed. The damage is worth 50 million baht. The man has returned some money, but it is only in the millions.

However, Mr. A is still in contact with the man, but he has been delaying until Mr. A feels distrustful and thinks that he will not get the lottery ticket back as agreed, so he decided to file a complaint at Samsen Police Station. Initially, it may be considered fraud. In addition, it is known that there are two other victims who have been treated the same way, and both of them probably have much higher losses, worth almost 100 million baht.

When asked whether the victim himself thought it was a gang or not, including whether the victim's close friends were involved, Mr. A revealed that he was not sure whether his friends were involved or not, but he thought that there was likely mutual benefit, and most of the time, the man would choose people to invest with who were businessmen with relatively good incomes.
