Bangkok: "Wisut" reveals he has not discussed choosing the second deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. Wisut Chainarun, an MP for the Pheu Thai Party and chairman of the Pheu Thai Party MPs, informed party members that the decision regarding the second deputy speaker of the House of Representatives has not yet been discussed. The topic is expected to be addressed in the following week as many MPs were unable to attend the recent meeting due to travel commitments.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut emphasized that the position of the second deputy speaker remains within the Pheu Thai Party's quota. However, he mentioned that discussions with coalition parties would be necessary once the cabinet is formed. He stated that it is essential for the role to align with the principles of the Pheu Thai Party, although it remains open to any government-affiliated individual.
Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, has noted interest from MPs in the Northeast region for the deputy speaker position. Mr. Wisut acknowledged this and highlighted the need for internal consultations to determine the most suitable candidate based on seniority and neutrality.
In the upcoming House of Representatives meeting, Mr. Wisut clarified that questioning will focus on live and general inquiries, predominantly from the opposition. Queries cannot be directed at former ministers or newly appointed ones, a fact Mr. Wisut believes the opposition understands well. Additionally, he reassured that the government is prepared to address any questions regarding the Thai-Cambodian border issue.
Regarding the potential postponement of the draft bill on the operation of entertainment complexes, Mr. Wisut confirmed that this will not be discussed in the upcoming session. The matter will be deferred to the following week for deliberation within the party, ensuring a democratic approach that involves listening to collective party voices rather than relying solely on government chief whip decisions.
