Wan Nor Defends Speaker Role Amidst Political Pressure

Bangkok: "Wan Nor" holds on to his position, saying the Speaker of the House of Representatives can still perform his duties according to the Constitution. Wan Nor firmly holds onto the Speaker's seat, pointing out that even with a change in government, he can still perform his duties in accordance with the Constitution.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, Speaker of the House of Representatives, gave an interview regarding the pressure from Bhumjaithai Party MPs to replace the Speaker following a change in government. He stated that the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker were never stipulated in the Constitution or regulations to change with the government. This is because the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions are not dependent on political parties, but are independent positions. He added that they have not changed in the past, even without a change in government.

"If we look at past practices, no matter how many times the government changes, the Speaker of the House never changes. This doesn't mean the Speaker or Deputy Speaker wants to change, but it must be in accordance with the Constitution," said Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor.

However, he fears that there might be doubts that might follow, as he is in the opposition camp. Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor must look at the situation and see if it can be done. If it cannot be done, then so be it.
