Visitors Pay Respects at Grand Palace as Tribute to Queen Mother

Bangkok: People gradually pay their respects before the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen Mother at the Grand Palace's Sala Sahathai Samakhom Hall. Individuals pass through the screening point at Sanam Luang in an orderly manner, reflecting the somber mood of the occasion.

According to Thai News Agency, after passing the screening point at Sanam Luang, visitors proceed from Mani Noppharat Gate to the waiting area where they can sign their condolences. Many arriving at the site carry royal portraits, ready to pay homage to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. Officials and volunteers are present to assist and guide the public through the process efficiently.

People start entering the waiting area on the Thammasat University side from as early as 8:30 a.m. The area accommodates between 3,000 to 4,000 people with seating, drinking water, and mobile toilets provided by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Today, there are no queues, allowing people to proceed directly through the tents and tunnel leading to the Royal Plaza.

On this second day, with increased awareness about the dress code through public relations, visitors adhere to the requirement of wearing formal mourning attire. This includes black clothing with a collar, while jeans, shorts, and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Women are advised to wear black skirts or sarongs that cover the knees.

Public transport remains the recommended mode of travel to the venue. The BMTA has arranged free shuttle buses on eight routes connecting key locations to Sanam Luang, including Victory Monument, Krungthep Aphiwat Central Station, and others. Additional options include two passenger boats at Saphan Phan Fa Pier and 18 regular routes through Sanam Luang.
