Villagers flocked to thank the Lawyers Council for helping to file a cadmium lawsuit, leading to the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the villagers. Today (July 1) at 9:00 a.m., the Bangkok South Civil Court has scheduled a hearing to hear the Supreme Court's verdict in the environmental case, Civil Case No. Black 63/2552, Civil Case No. Red 1083/2558 of the Bangkok South Civil Court, regarding the leakage of cadmium in the Mae Tao River Basin, Mae Tao Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province. The court upheld the Appeal Court's verdict, ordering the first defendant, Company P., and the second defendant, Company T., to pay compensation to each villager in accordance with the Appeal Court's verdict of over 30 million baht, and ordering Company P. to rehabilitate the environment, monitor and inspect, and submit a rehabilitation plan to the Court every 6 months, and to send the Supreme Court's verdict to all relevant government agencies. After hearing the Supreme Court's verdict, Mr. Atthakorn Saen-un and representatives of the affected villagers traveled to thank the Lawyers Council under Royal Patronage. Dr. Wichian Chubthaisong, the president of the Lawyers Council, assigned Lt. Somchai Amin, chairman of the environmental subcommittee for cases and operations, Mr. Pairoj Chamlongrat, vice chairman of the environmental subcommittee for environmental cases and operations, and Mr. Uthai Saisalee, head of the Lawyers Council office, to welcome them. -420-Thai News Agency Source: Thai News Agency
