Village Headman Surrenders After Fatal Shooting of Ex-Wife’s New Partner

Bangkok: A village headman from Ongkharak District, Nakhon Nayok Province, has surrendered to authorities following a fatal shooting incident involving his ex-wife's new partner. The headman, identified as Mr. Anan, 40, has been charged with several offenses after he shot and killed Mr. Phalathip, 34, a pig delivery driver, in a pickup truck on Bang Phai-Nong Phra Ngai Road, Tambon Bang Bua Thong, Amphoe Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on May 19. CCTV footage revealed that Mr. Phalathip parked his pickup truck on the side of the road before another black pickup truck stopped behind him. Mr. Anan, wearing a black T-shirt and shorts, exited his vehicle and fired six shots into the pickup truck, killing Mr. Phalathip before fleeing the scene.

In the early hours of May 20, Mr. Anan surrendered to Bang Bua Thong police, handing over the gun used in the crime. Despite maintaining a serious demeanor, he apologized to the family of the deceased upon being questioned by investigators. Initial charges against him include intentional murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was taken to Nonthaburi Provincial Court, where authorities requested his detention and opposed any bail.

The Superintendent of Bang Bua Thong Police Station reported that the shooting stemmed from a personal conflict over an affair. Investigations revealed that Mr. Phalathip had been secretly involved with Mr. Anan's ex-wife, leading to a confrontation and a threat from Mr. Anan. Witnesses confirmed that Mr. Anan had been surveilling the area prior to committing the crime.
