US Chip Association Applauds Trade Deal With ASEAN Nations

Washington: The US semiconductor trade association expressed approval for President Donald Trump's recent trade agreements with three Southeast Asian countries essential to the chip supply chain: Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

According to Thai News Agency, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), which serves as a trade association and lobbying group for the U.S. chip industry, released a statement on October 26th. John Neufer, President and CEO of SIA, congratulated the U.S. for securing these trade deals. He remarked that Southeast Asia has been increasingly significant in the global semiconductor ecosystem over the past years.

Neufer emphasized that the agreements with Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand are expected to provide much-needed certainty and predictability in the global trade and business climate for the semiconductor sector. He noted that these deals would lay the groundwork for future trade and economic security cooperation. The association aims to collaborate with the Trump administration in advancing global trade initiatives that will sustain U.S. leadership in the semiconductor industry for years to come.
