Urgent Hunt for Suspect in Murder of Girlfriend; Clues Point to Fleeing to Chiang Rai

Bangkok: CCTV footage has provided crucial evidence in the case of Ms. Prawpilai, a 30-year-old woman from Khon Kaen Province, who was tragically found dead in a luxury condominium in the Sukhumvit area. The footage, dated March 25, 2015, shows Mr. Daniel, a close friend of the deceased, leaving the condo with several bags and driving away in a black Benz sedan. The deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau has acknowledged that Daniel is currently hiding in Chiang Rai.

According to Thai News Agency, the Metropolitan Police and Thonglor Police Station are intensively searching for Mr. Daniel, who reportedly fled Bangkok. Investigations confirmed that a Benz picked him up from the condo on March 25, 2025. Although the vehicle remains in Bangkok, authorities believe Daniel has moved northwards. Efforts are underway to cordon off areas to prevent him from crossing the border.

Reports indicate that Mr. Daniel, the husband of Ms. Prawpilai, had rented the condominium with her for two months. The luxurious condo, located in a prime business district, is known for its affluent residents. The deceased had received a luxury watch from Mr. Daniel as a birthday gift on March 23 and had shared her happiness online. However, it was revealed that Mr. Daniel had a history of violence, which has led investigators to consider accidental murder as a possible cause of death.

Further investigations revealed that Mr. Daniel last entered Thailand in 2024, and his passport status currently lists him as an overstayer, complicating legal travel out of the country. Authorities suspect he has headed north to escape through natural channels to a third country.

Pol. Col. Ratthanon Ekthitikulphat, Superintendent of Thonglor Police Station, has stated that an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, as the body was found in a state suggesting it had been dead for at least 48 hours. Mr. Daniel was identified as the last person with Ms. Prawpilai, and police are actively pursuing him, given he left the scene alone on March 25, 2025.

Pol. Lt. Col. Noppasin Poolsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, has traveled to Chiang Rai to monitor the situation closely. He emphasized the urgency of capturing Mr. Daniel to prevent negative impacts on tourism, with initial motives for the murder appearing to be personal.
