Unveiling the First Light in Koh Phra Thong’s Savannah Grassland

Phang Nga: Unseen Phang Nga offers an opportunity to witness the first light in the middle of Koh Phra Thong's savannah grassland, reminiscent of African forests. The grasslands, although similar to African landscapes, are located on Koh Phra Thong in the Kura Buri District of Phang Nga Province. Before dawn, resort staff guide tourists to observe the sunrise and search for local wildlife, such as the 'horse deer.' The scenery features expansive golden grasslands and dwarf white celandine trees, creating an atmosphere similar to an African wildlife documentary.

According to Thai News Agency, the highlight of this experience is viewing the first rays of the sun in a panoramic setting over the golden grasslands, locally known as 'Tiger Grass.' When the sun rises above the mountains, it illuminates the area, creating a stunning visual. Between November and February, the grasslands reach their peak density and beauty, stretching endlessly across the landscape.

Koh Phra Thong spans 102 square kilometers, making it the largest island in Phang Nga and the fifth largest in Thailand. Despite its size, it houses only three villages: Ban Pak Jok, Ban Thung Dab, and Ban Pae Yoi. Recognized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) as 'Unseen Thailand' since 2003, the island was formed from ancient coral reefs, resulting in a unique landscape. It is characterized by its flat terrain, with mangrove forests to the east, white sandy beaches to the west, and a central grassland, earning it the moniker 'Koh Phra Thong Savannah.'
