United States Elevates Thailand to Safest Tourist Destination Status

Bangkok: The United States has officially upgraded Thailand to Level 1 on its safety standards for tourists, signifying a significant boost in the country's image as a secure travel destination. This development is expected to bolster global confidence in Thai tourism.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, deputy government spokeswoman, disclosed that the US Department of State recently adjusted its Travel Advisory, placing Thailand at Level 1 - Exercise Normal Precautions as of June 9, 2025. This classification places Thailand among the safest countries for tourists, aligning it with nations such as Japan, Australia, Canada, and Singapore.

The designation as a safest country not only enhances Thailand's security reputation but also positively impacts the tourism sector, including hotels, restaurants, and various services. This recognition is anticipated to support continuous recovery, job creation, income generation, and prosperity distribution, particularly appealing to the US tourist market known for its high spending and preference for quality travel experiences.

Despite the three southern border provinces-Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat-remaining at Level 2, indicating increased caution, major tourist destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya are deemed safe by international standards.

Thailand's success in achieving this status is attributed to its commitment to tourist safety through initiatives such as Tourist Assistance Centers (TACs), the Foreign Tourist Assistance Fund, and the Tourist Court, which ensures systematic justice.

Ms. Sasikarn expressed gratitude to the public sectors for their contributions to security and safety, emphasizing that the US ranking serves as evidence of Thailand's readiness to become an international tourist hub.
