Bangkok: The Ruam Palang Phaendin group, comprising dozens of political activists, has called for Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra to resign from her position. The group is urging coalition parties to withdraw immediately and has scheduled a demonstration to defend the nation's sovereignty on June 28.
According to Thai News Agency, a press conference was held at the Rattanakosin Hotel, where more than 40 individuals from various political backgrounds, including former protesters, political party leaders, and activists, gathered under the banner 'Uniting the Power of the Land'. Key figures in attendance included Pol. Gen. Sereepisuth Temiyawes, leader of the Seri Ruam Jai Party, Mr. Panthep Puapongphan representing Mr. Sonthi Limthongkul, former leader of the PAD, Mr. Jatuporn Promphan of the People's Fusion Group, Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom, president of the Thai Phakdee Party, and U Haruthai Muangbunsri, a former singer.
Mr. Nitithorn Lamluea, also known as Lawyer Nokhao, read a statement declaring that Prime Minister Paethongtarn has lost her legitimacy due to incompetence and actions perceived as hostile to the country. He cited a controversial clip of her conversation with Hun Sen, a senior leader of Cambodia, as a primary reason for the call for her immediate resignation and the withdrawal of the ruling party.
Mr. Jatuporn Promphan expressed that the Prime Minister appears to be on the opposite side of the Thai people, arguing that her governance cannot continue. He criticized any political party that still chooses to align with the government after hearing the conversation with Hun Sen, equating it to aiding treason.
Furthermore, Mr. Jatuporn mentioned that despite using her personal phone for a national discussion, Paethongtarn disparaged the army chief. He noted her absence in visiting Chong Bok to meet the army chief until recent events prompted her immediate travel there, questioning her motives.
Pol. Gen. Sereepisuth highlighted his past association with Mr. Thaksin as police colleagues but emphasized their current opposition due to Thaksin's alleged daily political activities aimed at imitating Hun Sen. He called for the Prime Minister's resignation, citing her incompetence as detrimental to the nation.
Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom criticized what he described as inherited political malice, asserting that Paethongtarn is incapable of leading Thailand. He condemned her private conversations with Hun Sen as deceitful to the public, urging her resignation to safeguard national sovereignty.
The "United Power of the Land" rally is set for June 28, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Victory Monument. The group insists that Paethongtarn must resign and urges the Democrat Party, Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, and Chartthaipattana Party to exit the coalition government immediately.
