Bangkok: The United States has clarified that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on rare earth minerals with Thailand does not impose any legal obligations or compromise national sovereignty, aiming instead to create a stable supply chain.
According to Thai News Agency, the U.S. Embassy in Thailand released a statement regarding the recent MOU on essential minerals between the two nations. The embassy highlighted that the agreement is not legally binding under either international or Thai law and preserves Thailand's control over its natural resources.
The MOU's primary goals include fostering international exchange of knowledge and techniques, boosting Thailand's essential minerals sector, aiding in resource analysis, and establishing a robust and responsible supply chain for essential and rare minerals.
The statement further explained that this initiative will enhance the existing Thai-U.S. partnership in trade, investment, and commerce. It will also facilitate information sharing on key mineral projects, joint exploration of business opportunities, and open new avenues for future cooperation.
