Thunderstorms Predicted to Hit Thailand as Cold Air Mass Moves In

Bangkok: Thunderstorms are forecasted across various regions of Thailand, including Bangkok and its vicinity, with a 30% chance of rain, as reported by the Meteorological Department. The lower North, Northeast, Central regions, and the Eastern part of the country are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning in some areas.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has released a 24-hour weather forecast indicating that a new high-pressure area or moderate cold air mass from China has extended its reach over the upper northeastern region and the South China Sea. This development is anticipated to draw moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, affecting the lower northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. While daytime temperatures are expected to remain hot, these areas will likely witness thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, and lightning. A subsequent drop in temperature by 1-2 degrees Celsius is expected in the northeastern region, with the northern area remaining cool to cold. The northeastern and central regions will experience cool mornings. Residents in these regions are advised to take precautions due to the changing weather conditions and potential hazards from thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning. It is recommended to avoid open a reas, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Farmers are urged to protect their crops from potential damage.

Furthermore, the weak northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the South is intensifying to moderate strength, which is expected to result in increased rainfall in the South. Sea conditions are expected to become rougher, with waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand reaching heights of 1-2 meters, and waves in the upper Gulf approximately 1 meter high. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves could exceed 2 meters. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating through thunderstorm-affected areas.

The current weather conditions could also impact dust and smog accumulation in the upper part of Thailand, where levels are reported to be moderate to quite high due to weak winds.
