Three Bombings Target Yala Municipality Youth Center Amid Festival Preparations

Yala: Three explosions occurred at three locations in front of the Yala Municipality Youth Center, causing significant disruptions but fortunately resulting in no injuries or deaths. Investigators identified the explosive devices as pipe bombs, suspected to be aimed at disrupting the traditional boat procession festival planned in the area. According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage revealed individuals driving by and throwing what appeared to be a grenade onto the road. Flames were visible at the scene, and people passing by managed to swerve and avoid the explosions. The incident took place yesterday at 9:10 p.m. on Sukyang Road, Muang District, Yala Province. In response to the explosions, Yala Provincial Police, along with rapid response officers, patrol units, and rescue workers, coordinated efforts to investigate the source of the blasts. They cordoned off the area to prevent any potential casualties. While officials were securing the scene, two more explosions occurred approximately 15 minutes apart , prompting a retreat from the area. Authorities then utilized a rescue vehicle and spotlights to facilitate a detailed investigation by the bomb disposal and destruction team, Yala Provincial Police, and Forensic Science Center 10. The bombings took place ahead of the traditional boat procession scheduled for October 8-10, 2025. The event, marking the end of Buddhist Lent, will feature royal boats from four southern provinces. Officials suspect the incident is part of ongoing insurgency efforts aimed at creating instability in the region.
