Thawee Confident in Harmony Between Phumtham and Army on Border Issue

Bangkok: Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, expressed confidence that the Thai-Cambodian border situation requires a focus on creating understanding with the people and reassured that there would be no conflict between “Phumtham” and the army.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Thawee addressed the responsibilities concerning the Thai-Cambodian border, emphasizing that it falls under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Interior. He noted that the Ministry of Justice receives various reports from regional and local agencies related to the situation. Thawee stressed the importance of ensuring public safety and the need for effective communication to help the public understand the unfolding situation.

Thawee further stated that there should be no discomfort felt by soldiers or civilians regarding the ongoing situation. He highlighted that the Minister of Defense, along with the armed forces’ commanders, have been in continuous discussions about the border issues, suggesting that such dialogue should prevent any potential conflicts.

Regarding concerns about Cambodia possibly taking the border dispute to the International Court of Justice, Thawee remarked that the situation may not have escalated to that point. Nonetheless, the Ministry of Justice is monitoring the matter closely, given its longstanding role as a security agency with a wealth of knowledge in dealing with extraterritorial issues and legal reforms on a global scale.
