Bangkok: "Thanakorn" urges the establishment of an international online crime suppression center. Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, former Minister to the Prime Minister's Office and Deputy Leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (RTSP), has made a strong call for the government to continue its efforts in dismantling call center gangs. He emphasized the need for an inter-country online crime suppression center to be established urgently and has asked the security sector to rigorously secure the borders to prevent the entry of criminal networks into Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thanakorn highlighted the success of the government's collaboration with neighboring countries, including Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, and China, in tackling the call center gang menace. He noted that these measures have significantly reduced the number of people falling prey to scams. Mr. Thanakorn supports continued decisive actions against these criminal networks, particularly targeting key figures who may be high-ranking officials complicit in facilitating such operations. He stressed the importance of imposing severe penalties to deter future crimes, which would, in turn, protect the lives and properties of Thai citizens and improve the country's image and tourism economy.
Mr. Thanakorn also urged all relevant agencies, including the police and military, to deploy SEAL forces to intercept the multinational call center gang networks, which have reportedly left over 7,000 individuals stranded in Myawaddy, Myanmar. He emphasized the need for thorough screening to differentiate between perpetrators and victims, facilitating coordinated action in subsequent steps. Establishing an international online crime suppression center is crucial to coordinating efforts and repatriating the entire network to their home countries.
Mr. Thanakorn expressed his approval of the Prime Minister's planned visit to the area, underscoring the urgency and importance of addressing this issue to prevent future harm to the country. He also called on the police and the Ministries of Digital Economy and Society and Interior to raise public awareness about cyber threats and the tactics employed by call center gangs, aiming to protect Thai citizens from falling victim to such scams in the future.
