Thaksin’s Meeting with Coalition Leaders Seen as Positive Step, Says Wisut

Bangkok: Mr. Wisut Chainarun, the government whip, expressed optimism about former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's scheduled meeting with key leaders Mr. Newin Chitchob and Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul of the Bhumjaithai Party. Confident that this dialogue will prevent any conflict during the upcoming no-confidence debate, Mr. Wisut emphasized that the investigation of the Pak Chong land is solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture and not related to the Pheu Thai Party. He noted that differing opinions among coalition parties are a normal part of democratic governance.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut addressed concerns regarding tensions between the Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties, clarifying that disagreements are typical in coalition governments with multiple parties. He assured that despite differing views, the coalition would maintain a unified stance in the no-confidence debate. Mr. Wisut stated that intra-party debates are common, and the party ultimately adheres to its resolutions.

Discussions have arisen around the investigation of land in Pak Chong District and its potential to cause discord, linked to constitutional amendments. Mr. Wisut emphasized that the Pheu Thai Party is not involved in the investigation, which falls under the duties of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. He has submitted the matter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives to seek a Constitutional Court ruling, awaiting further negotiations.

Regarding the potential impact of ongoing investigations on coalition stability, Mr. Wisut reiterated that the Pheu Thai Party is not conducting the investigation. He expressed confidence that there is no issue that could lead to a break in the coalition, as the Bhumjaithai Party remains committed to the government.

Mr. Wisut addressed reports of Thaksin's meeting with Mr. Anutin and Mr. Newin at the Pullman King Power Hotel in Bangkok, considering it a positive development. He emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving political issues and fostering understanding among leaders.

When questioned about the necessity of Thaksin's involvement, Mr. Wisut downplayed the seriousness of any underlying issues, asserting that regular communication between the leaders has been effective in maintaining stability within the coalition. He expressed confidence in the government's unity, dismissing rumors of discord.

In response to speculation about a possible split from the Bhumjaithai Party, Mr. Wisut conveyed his belief in the coalition's resilience, stressing the normalcy of differing opinions in a democratic setting. He likened political disagreements to familial dynamics, reassuring that the coalition will endure and continue to work collaboratively.
