Bangkok: Praise has been heaped upon former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for his decision to return to Thailand and serve his sentence related to the 14th-degree case. Chanchai Issarasenarak, Somchai Sawaengkarn, and Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom have all acknowledged Thaksin's courage in accepting the court's verdict.
According to Thai News Agency, Chanchai Issarasenarak, a former Democrat Party MP for Nakhon Nayok and the plaintiff in the case, expressed his gratitude after the court read the details concerning the evidence and the actions of the Corrections Department officials. The court recognized the complaint filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and clarified that Thaksin, although not ill, was involved in the crime. Chanchai appreciated Thaksin's decision to return and hear the court's verdict, noting it was right for him to serve his sentence, despite feeling that the punishment may not fully reflect the severity of the crime.
Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom, president of the Thai Phakdee Party, commented on the legal aspects of the case, particularly regarding the enforcement of Section 55 of the Corrections Act. He noted that today's court decision clarified that the Corrections Department's actions to send Thaksin outside for treatment did not comply with the law, thus ensuring that the legal process was maintained appropriately.
Former Senator Somchai Sawaengkarn also expressed gratitude towards the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions, emphasizing the restoration of justice in Thai society. He praised Thaksin for his bold decision to return, ensuring the continuation of the justice process.
