Thaksin Unfazed by Political Alliances, Confident in Government Stability

Bangkok: Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra recently addressed the political developments concerning prominent figures Jatuporn Prompan and Sondhi Limthongkul. Thaksin commented on a photograph of the two leaders, who were previously on opposite sides, embracing during an event at Thammasat University. Thaksin expressed that the moment did not provoke any strong reaction from him.

According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin dismissed concerns about potential alliances forming against him, emphasizing that he frequently meets with Newin Chidchob, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party. Thaksin highlighted their recent meeting, which took place two months ago, and mentioned that such interactions are routine.

When questioned about the symbolic handshake between Jatuporn and Sondhi, which was interpreted by some as a challenge to Thaksin’s influence, he remained unfazed. Thaksin elaborated that he does not get involved in political theatrics and is more focused on his personal life, mentioning his family responsibilities.

Thaksin also addressed speculation about the stability of the coalition government. He reassured that there is no instability within the coalition and that the parties involved continue to work together harmoniously. He expressed confidence that the government would remain intact until the end of its term, dismissing any notion of a mid-term change of leadership or parliamentary dissolution.

Regarding the relationship between the Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties, Thaksin demonstrated solidarity by putting his arm around Anutin Charnvirakul, a prominent Bhumjaithai member, to indicate their ongoing cooperation. He dismissed concerns about proxy wars and ethics complaints involving party members, asserting that they are manageable issues.

Thaksin also commented on the recent incident involving Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, expressing sympathy for his fall but maintaining that it is unrelated to political developments. Overall, Thaksin’s statements convey a message of confidence in the current political landscape and his enduring influence within it.
