Thaksin Shinawatra Addresses Senate Collusion Allegations

Bangkok: Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has addressed recent allegations of collusion involving the Senate, asserting that the issue is proceeding in accordance with established processes. Thaksin emphasized that if he is innocent, he will have the opportunity to prove his innocence without any hindrance. He highlighted that the matter cannot be halted midway, as doing so would leave the case unresolved.

According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin spoke about the origins of the collusion issue, noting that it began when the Election Commission (EC) received a complaint, prompting the formation of a committee. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) became involved as evidence was submitted to them. Thaksin explained that the DSI acted independently, as failing to do so could have resulted in charges under Section 157 if they possessed evidence. He stated that both the senators and any accused individuals would be subject to legal proceedings.

Thaksin further explained that once a legal process is initiated, it must be seen through to its conclusion. He drew parallels to his own experience of being detained by the military under Section 112 during a coup, after which he had to undergo a legal process upon his return. Thaksin reiterated that if innocence can be demonstrated, there should be no issue, but the process must continue without interruption to prevent lingering legal challenges.
