Thailand Faces Potential Flooding Due to Increased Rainfall and Storm Warnings

Bangkok: Academics reveal that this year there are factors that cause flooding.

According to Thai News Agency, environmental and health experts have pointed out an unusual amount of rainfall this year as a contributing factor to potential flooding. Professor Sonthi Kotchawat, a prominent figure in the Environmental Academic Club, has highlighted that Thailand is experiencing heavy rainfall covering nearly 80% of the country. He warns that areas such as the Bangkok metropolitan region, northern and central regions, and the Andaman coast are likely to be severely impacted until May 27, with Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces being the exceptions.

Forecasts indicate that wind patterns and monsoon troughs will likely lead to continued heavy rain from June through mid-October, posing a significant risk of storms, especially in October. The likelihood of storms entering Thailand increases from June, with October being the peak month for such events.

The current weather patterns are exacerbated by extreme temperatures in South Asia, with countries like India and Pakistan experiencing heat reaching up to 50 degrees Celsius. This situation increases the probability of storm formations in the Bay of Bengal, further contributing to the risk of flooding in Thailand.
