Thailand Sees Surge in Hotel Bookings as Foreign Tourists Flock Back

Bangkok: The government confirms that foreigners still love to visit Thailand, with many booking rooms until they are full. The government has ordered measures to support all dimensions, resulting in a growth in bookings for Thai hotels. SiteMinder confirms that foreign tourists still love to visit Thailand, rushing to book rooms until they are full.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the government's tourism stimulus measures, as well as the confidence of foreign tourists in Thailand, have resulted in a large number of foreign tourists traveling to the country. According to data from SiteMinder, a leading global hotel distribution and revenue management platform, Thailand is ranked in the world in 2024. The number of foreign tourists traveling to Thailand has increased the room rate by more than 15% compared to the previous year, making it the only country to achieve double-digit growth.

According to SiteMinder's Hotel Booking Trends report, which is based on more than 125 million hotel bookings, the largest volume of bookings on a single platform, the average daily rate (ADR) in Thailand has increased to THB 5,377 from THB 4,648 in 2023, with the highest ADR in December reaching THB 6,460 per room, an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is in response to increased demand from international travelers. The report shows that Thai hotels lead other Asian countries in terms of international visitor numbers, with international guests accounting for 77% of all check-ins, above the global average of 48%. This puts Thailand in second place in the world, behind only Austria. Further insights into Thai hotels in 2023 reveal that Thai hotel travelers are booking longer in advance, with an average booking period of 27 days, the longest in Asia and similar to the 29-day booking period in 2019.

'Thailand has emerged as a leading leisure destination, with local hotels ranked fifth in the world for the longest stays, with more than 15% of bookings lasting three nights or more, well above the global average of 11%, behind hotels in Portugal (21%) and Colombia, Mexico and Spain (each with 18%). The increase in average room rates in Thailand, coupled with the strong return of international tourists, highlights the growth of local hotels amid increased confidence in domestic travel. The government stands ready to support and promote tourism in Thailand to stimulate year-round tourism,' said Ms. Sasikarn.
