Thai Union Group Celebrates 19% Reduction in US Import Tariffs

Bangkok: Thai Union Group has expressed its satisfaction with the recent 19% reduction in US import tariffs on Thai goods, an achievement spearheaded by Team Thailand. This strategic move is expected to bolster exports of processed seafood, frozen seafood, and pet food to the US market.

According to Thai News Agency, Thai Union Group PCL congratulated the efforts of the Thailand team, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira. The agreement with the United States to impose a 19% reciprocal tariff on Thai goods aligns with those of the ASEAN region, demonstrating Thailand's dedication to maintaining its economic interests and global competitiveness.

Mr. Thiraphong Chansiri, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Union Group PCL, acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various government agencies and the private sector in advancing economic policies amid global trade tensions. He noted that by aligning Thailand's tariff reductions with those of regional counterparts like Indonesia and Vietnam, confidence in Thailand's export sector has been reinforced, ensuring its ongoing competitiveness.

Mr. Thiraphong emphasized the opportunities for the private sector to expand its export markets, expressing Thai Union's growing confidence in its export opportunities. He highlighted the competitive potential of processed seafood, frozen seafood, and pet food products in the global market, reinforcing Thai Union's commitment to supporting Thailand's export sector to sustain and strengthen the country's economy in the long run.
