Ubon ratchathani: The Second Army Region has confirmed that Thai soldiers have successfully taken control of significant areas within the "Chong An Ma" region, pushing back Cambodian forces and securing several strategic military locations.
According to Thai News Agency, this development comes in response to earlier reports circulating on social media about an incursion by Cambodian drones and tanks into the Chong An Ma area, located in Nam Yuen District. The incident had caused widespread concern among Thai citizens regarding the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border. In response, the Army Area 2 released a statement clarifying the current status and control measures implemented in the region.
Prior to the clashes on July 28, 2025, the area surrounding the Ta Om Monument had been under Cambodian control, with their forces maintaining a continuous presence. However, on July 30, 2025, when Cambodian military attaches from 13 countries visited the site, they observed that Thai military forces had already established complete control over the area.
In efforts to prevent further clashes and maintain stability, both nations have agreed to specific joint guidelines in the disputed "San Ma" claim area. These guidelines include the deployment of five officers from each side to inspect the area without additional forces, a prohibition on carrying weapons during duty, and conducting joint patrols around the Ta Om area. These patrol missions are to be conducted without any time restrictions.
The Thai military's recent actions have been focused on decisively removing Cambodian forces from areas deemed to infringe on Thai sovereignty. By securing these strategic locations, the Thai army aims to maintain a strategic advantage and prevent future conflicts. Once control was established, the Thai forces have been deployed to secure and legitimately occupy the area within Thailand's sovereign territory.
