Thai-Lao Ministers Promote Food Trade to World Kitchens

Bangkok: Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, led a delegation of ministers and business representatives from the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to visit THAIFEX - ANUGA ASIA 2025 at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani. This visit, attended by Mr. Malaithong Kommasith, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR, is part of a strategic cooperation between the two countries aimed at promoting trade, investment, and border trade to achieve a bilateral trade target of 11 billion USD by 2027. Thailand has expressed its readiness to host the 8th Meeting of the Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Lao PDR, which has not been held since 2018, to advance the economic cooperation plan into a concrete form.

According to Thai News Agency, the Lao PDR delegation visited significant exhibition booths of Thailand, while the Thai delegation also explored booths of Lao entrepreneurs participating in the exhibition. These included Maisavanh Lao with Inca bean products, Mekhonglao Export-Import with coffee, Lao Agro Industry with canned corn, and Miracle Lao Coffee Factory with coffee.

Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF) reported that both Mr. Pichai and Mr. Malaithong, along with their teams, visited the CPF booth. They participated in an astronaut activity where they rappelled down to serve a stir-fried chicken with basil dish, which will soon be sent to astronauts for tasting.

THAIFEX - ANUGA ASIA 2025 serves as a platform to showcase Thailand's potential as a global food business hub. The event expects to attract over 90,000 participants from 140 countries, generating a total trading value of over 98 billion baht both at the event and within the following year. Mr. Pichai encourages the public to attend the event, open for the last two days on May 30-31, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at IMPACT Challenger Halls 1-3 and IMPACT Exhibition Center Halls 5-12. The event features numerous exhibitions, seminars, and special activities that will update trends in the global food industry and inspire attendees at all levels.
